Stone Sports Management announces 2014 Montreal Impact Captain Patrice Bernier’s new contract with Major League Soccer and the Montreal Impact.  The contract provides Bernier to remain with his hometown club through the end of the 2016 season, as he enters his fourth season in the MLS era. Click HERE to watch the Impact's Press Conference announcing Bernier's signing.

The 35 year-old Montreal native captained the Impact during the 2014 season, his third season in MLS since re-joining the Impact from Danish club Lyngby BK in 2011.  Bernier started his career with the Montreal Impact during the club’s NASL days after spending two seasons (1998 and 1999) at Syracuse University in New York where he earned Big East First Team Honors.

"I am very happy to be back with the Impact," Bernier said. "I would like to thank the organization for allowing me to continue with this project. I feel that there is a solid visiion and some important additions in order to revive the team for the upcoming season.  The objective will be to start the season string, as early as th emonth of February with our  Champions League match [versus Pachuca]."

Bernier has been recognized as one of MLS’s best players at the Box to Box/Defensive Midfielder position in the past three years.  In 2013, MLS selected Bernier to the MLS All Star game in Kansas City where he was one of the best players on the field against Italian giants Roma.  A year prior and after starting the season from the bench, he turned his season around scoring 9 Goals and 8 Assists, resulting in the Montreal Impact naming Bernier the club’s 2012 MVP.  He led MLS in Points (32) between 2012-2014 after scoring the second most Goals (13) (Portland Timbers’ Will Johnson is First) and second most Assists (19) (Los Angeles Galaxy’s Marcelo Sarvas is First) during that period.  Defensively, Bernier also was only one of two players (Seattle Sounders’ Osvaldo Alonso the other) who, according to Opta, was in the Top 5 in Ball Recoveries pier 90 minutes played in each of the past three seasons.

"Today is a great day for Patrice Bernier, the Montreal Impact and the local and provincial community," says Stone Sports Management's President and Players' Agent Justin B. Stone. "Patrice has been an important Impact player for the last three years, and I am happy that he will remain as a fixture as the club moves forward.  Patrice has outstanding character and wants to build something special in his hometown.  I want to thank the Impact's President and Owner Joey Saputo, Executive Vice President Richard Legendre, the Coaching and Technical staff and Patrice for finding a solution to keep him in Montreal."

In 2014, Bernier scored the decisive goal to advance in the Amway Canadian Championship and avoid disaster losing to the NASL's FC Edmonton.  Bernier scored one Goal and added two in four starts during the tournament helping the Impact to its second consecutive Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League birth.

Bernier will compete with two recent Impact signings along with Calum Mallace and Jeremy Gagnon-Lapere.  The Impact just yesterday announced the signing of former English International Nigel Reo-Coker and earlier this off-season Italian Serie A veteran Marcel Donadel.  This group will have one of the best central midfields in MLS that will compete for just two starting positions.  Bernier, who is the club's all-time leader in game winning assists and penalty kick goals, ranks second in goals and games played, ranked third in assista and ranked fourth in games started and minutes played, expects to return to his 2012-2013 form knowing that he will have a full pre-season to prepare.  In the 2014 pre-season, Bernier was sidelined after having off-season surgery that had him playing catch up from the season's beginning.

"I expect Patrice to have an improved 2015 season and return to his 2012 and 2013 form," predicts Agent Justin Stone. "It was important for Patrice and I to understand the Impact's direction after finishing last in MLS in 2014.  With the Impact's recent and expected signings, cooperation with Italian club Bologna, creation of a USL Pro team and bulding new Academy infrastructure, the future looks bright for Patrice and the Impact.  I wish Patrice and the Impact the best for next season and beyond."

Bernier will soon leave for Florida to begin his NSCAA "B" Coaching License course. He will return to Montreal through the Holidays and take a family vacation in early January.  He will then participate in Canada's first National Team Camp that will prepare him for the Impact's 2015 pre-season  Bernier and the Impact will be preparing for their CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Final match where they will seek to be only the third North American club to advance to the Semi-Finals.
