FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Minnesota United FC Makes Impact Signing With Tiago Calvano
Washington, D.C. (Stone Sports Management, LLC) -- January 31, 2014
Stone Sports Management is pleased to announce NASL's Minnesota United FC's signing of Brazilian Defender Tiago Blanco Calvano for the 2014 Season. Minnesota United FC has made a major splash by signing Calvano as his experience in the Australian A-League, German Bundesliga, Swiss Super League and Brazilian Serie A makes his resume one of the best in the NASL. The Brazilian Defender is known to be an organizer and leader along the back line with the ability to use "Brazilian Flair" with his skills and passing.
With Calvano's contract expiring at the end of April 2014, Minnesota United FC identified Calvano as the ideal candidate to lead the club defensively in order to win the NASL Soccer Bowl held in November. With Calvano being a model professional, he and Sydney FC were able to mutually terminate his contract and part ways so that the Brazilian could start his new North American challenge in time for the pre-season.
"I am very pleased how this transaction took place. When I met with Minnesota United FC's President Nick Rogers, Head Coach and Technical Director Manny Lagos and Assistant Coach Carl Craig in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, they were clearly ambitious to attract top talent ahead of this season to upgrade their squad," remarked Agent Justin B. Stone. "Tiago Calvano is very excited to start a new challenge in North America, and he wanted to be a part of an interesting project. I applaud Minnesota United FC for making an aggressive move to secure Calvano's services and making him and his family already feel welcomed even though they are half way across the globe. This is a significant signing for Minnesota United FC and for the NASL generally."
"I also want to thank Sydney FC, CEO Tony Pignata and Head Coach Frank Farina for not standing in Calvano's way when this opportunity presented itself and wish them all the best for the rest of the A-League Season," says Stone.
Calvano joints a Minnesota United FC team who won the 2011 NASL Championship and returned to the 2012 NASL Championship game. The club is looking to improve on its 2013 finish with additional impact signings expected in the near future. Calvano and his family will remain in Sydney to finalize their immigration paperwork in hopes to arrive in Minnesota in time for the pre-season, which Minnesota United FC recently announced will be highlighted with trips to California to play the Los Angeles Galaxy and to England to play against Derby County.
"I am really looking forward to joining Minnesota United FC and meeting my new teammates and the staff. I would like to say thank you to the club and to Coach Lagos for giving me this opportunity. I will give 100% as I have always done to help the club ahieve their goals. My family and I are all very excited about coming to Minnesota," says Tiago Calvano.
Stone Sports Management would also like to thank USSF FIFA Licensed Agent Damone Priestley for the opportunity and for his great work, dedication and collaboration in making this transaction a success. In addition, Stone Sports Management would like to congratulate Calvano on his new adventure and wish him nothing but the best in this career chapter.
