"I am really looking forward to returning to the Triangle area and contributing scoring goals for Carolina in the NASL and US Open Cup. The Railhawk's facilities, fan base and community are some of the best in the country at this level, and it is my goal to ensure that the club's winning tradition continues. I am eager to get started with my teammates and to work with two well respected caoches Coach Clarke and Coach Bader. I want to thank them, the Railhaw's Front Office and the entire organization for this opportunity," says King. "I also want to say special thanks to my agent Justin Stone for helping me grant my wish to return to the NASL where I have found my greatest success."
King previously played for the Carolina Railhawks in 2009 under Coach Martin Rennie after previously appearing for the Charleston Battery. The Railhawks had an abundance of strikers that season and eventually traded King to Miami FC at the roster freeze date. King would go on to score 3 goals in 5 games for the club now known as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The 2010 expansion franchise FC Tampa Bay a/k/a Tampa Bay Rowdies signed King the following season, and he rewarded them with stellar play becoming the club's all-time leading goal scorer with 21 goals in two seasons. King used that success to get opportunities with the New York Red Bulls and abroad for Finnish Veikkausligga side KuPS, but he unfortunately suffered an Achilles injury while on trial in Finland missing the entire 2012 season. King would bounce back and sign with Phoenix FC to start the 2013 season and secured his first contract abroad during the summer signing with Haka FC.
"This is a real special time for Aaron and his wife Kelsy. Not only does Aaron get to return where he spent four great years in college at N.C. State but also will be welcoming his first child in Spring who will be born in the Triangle Area," remarks Agent Justin B. Stone. "The last time Aaron played in the NASL, he scored 12 goals and was third in the league. I expect him to have similar production after two years away, as he is incredibly focused on making this year a successful one and to start his family's newest chapter."
Aaron also reflects on the King family's transition, "2014 will be a very exciting year for my wife and I. We have a new addition to the king family due this summer. Raeligh is a wonderful, family oriented comunity that will be the perfect fit for our new beginning. After recovering from my 2012 injury and playing abroad last year, I am looking to fly high and return to score goals in a familiar league with players I have battled against previously and some recent additions to the league. Pre-season cannot come soon enough!"
