San Jose Earthquake striker Sercan Guvenisik recorded a hat trick in Sunday's MLS Reserve game against the Portland Timbers.  Sercan picked a great time to show his goal scoring abilities as 14,121 fans witnessed the 3-1 win which set an MLS record for attendance in a Reserve game.  Not only did Sercan score three goals, but it also included this fantastic 65 yard strike.  Sercan's three goals put him on top of the MLS Reserve league goal scoring charts.  The Earthquakes possess an embarrasment of riches at the striker position, including MLS' leading goal scorder Chris Wondolowski, Alan Gordon and Steven Lenart with the latter two also in the league's top 15 in scoring.

On May 18, 2012, Justin Stone embarked to Scandinavia to meet with every SSM client located in Finland and Sweden and to meet with various clubs.  Finnish football expert Sami Salonen welcomed Justin and assisted with the precise itinerary that allowed attendance at seven matches and participating in ten club management meetings.

The Scandinavian market has been a great platform for SSM clients to acclimate to European football and a new culture.  SSM clients have also had success earning starting roles and valuable playing time to put themselves in prime position for transfers similar to Tomer Chencinski's move from VPS to Orebro SK.

After a long flight that arrived at 7 A.M. local time, Justin took a bus from Arland airport into downtown Stockholm prior to Sami Salonen's arrival.

They were soon joined by former Swedish international Bosse Anderson and spent lunch in Stockholm Square.  The group then went to meet Sirius IK representatives before watching a Swedish 3rd division match between BK Forward vs. Vasby United.  The level showed that many USL Pro and NASL players could play in this league.

Jonny Steele made his mark for the second time in three games coming on as a substitute to score the game winner and help Real Salt Lake to 6 points in the table.  In between, Steele earned his first start for the Cobalt and Red against the Montreal Impact.  On April 1, 2012 against the Portland Timbers, Steele combined well with several RSL teammates and then slotted a side footed shot through the legs of the Timbers' Rooke Central Defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste to find the back of the next.

On April 29, 2012 against Toronto FC, Steele did it again this time taking a Kyle Beckerman lay off and clinically put the ball in the top corner against Toronto FC.  Check out the highlights above and below and make sure to follow Steele and RSL this season in CONCACAF Champions League and MLS regular season play where they are expected to advance to the knock out rounds and playoffs in the respective competitions.  Goal comes at the 1:15 mark in the video below.

It is likely that most USL Pro players have never heard the name Kristian Nicht, but they soon will know him as one of the best and most accomplished goalkeepers to ever set foot in the United Soccer Leagues having played over130 first team matches with Budesliga 1, 2 and Norwegian Tippeligaen clubs.

K. Nicht

The Rochester Rhinos signed Kristian Nicht to be their stalwart between the posts after Neil Kitson transferred to England.  The Rhinos made an impressive bid for Nicht while the 29 year old GK had options within MLS and back home in Germany.  "Signing for Rochester and playing in the United States is a dream come true.  I have always wanted to play in the United States and move to this country every since I visited twelve years ago.  I am going to give my best to help bring Rochester another league championship and to go far in the US Open Cup," said Nicht.  While waiting for his P-1 Visa, Nicht is currently back home in Germany staying fit and will join his new Rhino teammates for pre-season.  Click HERE for some highlights from the 6 foot 5 German GK with his time at Karlsruher SC.

Washington, D.C. (January 27, 2011) - 31 year old Turkish Striker Sercan Güvenışık has put pen to paper and signed an MLS Contract where he will be joining the San Jose Earthquakes for the upcoming 2012 MLS season. Sercan will join a strike force that includes the league's leading goal scorer for the past two seasons Chris Wondolowski that will help push San Jose back into the playoff picture and an MLS Cup contender.  Sercan will provide a different dynamic with his speed and ability to get behind the defense.  He has a strike rate of a goal every four matches over his career playing in the top four levels of Germany as well as the Turkish Super League.

MLS signed Sercan on a free transfer after he mutually agreed to terminate his contract with German Liga 3 club Preussen Munster where Sercan led the team in scoring since he joined the club in 2009 and also promotion.

In Summer 2011, Sercan went on trial with the San Jose Earthquakes and scored two goals against the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves.  With one year left on his Munster contract, the timing was not right. Sercan stayed committed to his goal coming to Major League Soccer, and in the process, made history becoming the first ever Turkish player in the league.  He is very excited to join the club for preseason and awaits his P1 visa.  Here's Sercan with a few words to the Earthquakes fans.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has signed Turkish forward Sercan Guvenisik pending receipt of his P-1 visa. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Guvenisik comes to MLS from SC Preussen Muenster of the Bundesliga 3. He scored 14 goals in 56 league matches after returning for his second stint with the club in 2010. Guvenisik also played there in 2005-06, while previously competing for SC Paderborn 07, Rot-Weiss Essen, FC Carl Zeiss Jena, SC Feucht and MSV Duisburg in Germany.

“We had him on trial last year and followed him ever since,” said Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop. “He’s an intelligent, experienced player who should help with the depth on our squad. We’re happy to have him in San Jose.”

He produced 17 goals and eight assists over 39 matches for Paderborn in 2008-09, winning the Bundesliga 3 Golden Boot award and helping the club earn promotion to the Bundesliga 2. Guvenisik drew six Bundesliga substitute appearances for Duisburg in 1999-2000. He played for Turkish Super Lig club Manisaspor from 2005-06 for and spent time with Turkish side Denizlispor as well.

Guvenisik is no stranger to the Earthquakes. He started and scored two goals in his MLS Reserve League debut during a week-long trial with the Quakes last June. The brace came during the first half of a 3-0 home win over the LA Galaxy at the Earthquakes Training Facility in San Jose on June 6.

“I am really happy to sign with the San Jose Earthquakes and Major League Soccer,” said Guvenisik. “It has always been my dream to play in the United States, and MLS is growing each and every year. It makes me proud, too, to be the first Turkish player to sign with MLS, and I hope to represent the Turkish community well here and put more Turkish eyes on the league. I am looking forward to joining my teammates soon and working with (head coach) Frank (Yallop) and his staff.”

Guvenisik, who represented Turkey at the U-21 level, holds dual citizenship in Turkey and Germany.

On Thursday, January 12, 2012, Major League Soccer's New England Revolution selected Creighton University and Generation Adidas Left Back Tyler Polak with the 22nd Pick.  Tyler had little time to celebrate in Kansas City with his parents, brother, teammates, coaches and friends in attendance, as he had to return to Lincoln, Nebraska to pack, say goodbyes to family, friends, teammates and coaches before flying to Boston Sunday to begin pre-season Monday.

Tyler joints the Revolution without an incumbent sure-fire starter at the left back position and will learn the position at the professional level under former U.S. National Team and MLS All-Star Jay Heaps who also played the outside back position.  Combine that with the presence of U.S. National Team and World Cup Veteran Outside Back Michael Burns in the Revs Front Office made the Revolution one of the best fits for Tyler.

Please enjoy some pictures and videos as well as some online articles from the MLS SuperDraft and Tyler's MLS Combine Highlights.
